The Doctor like you've never seen him before!

HAPPY WHO YEAR!

I know, it's been forever since the last time I've posted here, so let's get on with it and give everyone an update on what's happening at Who-Net Central....

Well, first and foremost, I just drew the diabetes card, which is not a great disaster in my book... it's a signal that De Boss needs to start taking better care of himself, doing better food, exercise, and (and I can't believe I'm doing this) consulting with a doctor and a nuitritionist. I'm feeling much better now, and I've got a lot of my old energy back.

Secondly, I'm hard at work on the promised INNER DIMENSIONS/NEUTRON FLOW SPECIAL, which will be out by February. It's looking really good so far, and I think everyone will really enjoy it.

Next up, we want to encourage everyone who can make it to attend the next Whoosier Network meeting Friday, Jan. 9th at 6:30 PM, when we'll be presenting the 2008 Doctor Who Christmas special "THE NEXT DOCTOR", the first of the final five episodes that will close out the magnificent run of Russell Davies, Phil Collinson, Julie Gardner, and David Tennant as the caretakers of the Who legacy. When the series returns full out in 2010, it will be under the guidance of one of DW's most powerful scribes, the award-winning author Steven Moffat and will feature a new actor as the Eleventh Doctor. So, to say the least, there is much, MUCH to look forward to over the next two years.

Finally, on behalf of the staff and membership of the Whoosier Network, we want to wish all of you the best of the New Year!

A Timeless New Year

CLASSIC DOCTOR WHO ON AT&T U-VERSE VIDEO ON DEMAND!

As I've just posted, Dee and I switched our cable service for AT&T's new bundle servise "U-Verse". Well, I was channel surfing and exploring their Video On Demand section and came across their "Cutting Edge" category. Inside was a sub-category called "Illusion", and inside that was "BBC Sci-Fi".

My curiosity was swelling, and upon opening that, I found all four chapters of the classic Doctor Who episode "Tomb of the Cybermen" starring Patrick Troughton! The episodes are scheduled until the end of August, so if you have this new service and want to see one of the great 60's DW episode, here'

WHO-NET CENTRAL GOES HI-DEF!

Lots of updating to be done here, so I'll try to keep it brief:

First off, I want to thank everyone for their support of me while I've been recovering from my recent hearing loss. Just to let you know, things have improved greatly, and while my hearing's still not quite 100%, it no longer feels like there's 15 pounds of cotton stuffed in my head.

Second, Dee and I came into some unexpected money this last week, and we decided that now was the time to move forward with our plans that got derailed by the flood for our Bush Buy-off money (the ESP) and purchase a 32" HDTV set.

For our household, this was actually a form of trauma. Because at the same time, AT&T showed up with their new U-Verse service that would combine my phone, internet, and TV. Considering how bad service had been with Comcast over the last year and that everything else in my house was run by AT&T, why not my television as well?

FLOOD, ILLNESS, 'PUTER PROBLEMS... WHAT DOES IT TAKE TO KILL THIS GUY??!!!!

Sorry it's been so long since posts, but I felt it was about time to give everyone an update on what's happening at Who-Net Central beyond the occasional update on meetings and special events.

As everyone knows, we had a rather eventful June-July here in Columbus. We had to deal with the massive flood that brought destruction through our neighborhood (although compared to our neighbors we made out like thieves in the night), followed by a very expensive car repair, and then capped off with computer repair that all sought to eat away our Bush Buy-Off check (A.K.A. Economic Stimulus Package).

DOCTOR WHO YEAR 4 IN REVIEW (SPOILER FREE) PART 1

Been a while since I've checked in, the Beeb is well into the new season, and we're just on the verge with the Sci-Fi Channel, so let me give you some safe, non-spoiler rundowns on the series so far....

"Partners in Crime"
Very good beginning. Usually with a new companion the main story comes off rather dull in order to get the chemistry working between the Doctor and his new protege`, but since we've already been there and done that, this one takes its time getting the Doctor and Donna Noble together, and has a lot of fun with it while making us wait.

Certainly, Catherine Tate is going to be a huge asset to this series. It's clear that her brief time with the Doctor in "Runaway Bride" has changed her, and that she now feels more compassion for others than she did prior to her first encounter. She still has that bitchy side, but it's nowhere near as annoying or coming out of nowhere like it did.

"WHO IS DOCTOR WHO?" IS NOW UPDATED TO SEASON 3 AND BEYOND!

If you'll check in the column to your left, you'll notice we have some new links to some key websites, including "WHO IS DOCTOR WHO?", my rundown of the history of the good Doctor. We now have everything updated to the third season of the new series and a bit of a sneak preview of the upcoming fourth season. So if you're brand-new to the world of Who and need a rundown on what's been happening for the last 45 years, this is the place to go! Enjoy!

WHERE THE @#%$ HAVE I BEEN??!!!!

Last December? That was my last post? Holy crap, maybe I'd better put something on this board

Seriously, many apologies for not checking in for so long. So let's get some updates going here:

As you can see to the right, we now have a new meeting place in the Jesus Metropolitan Community Church, a beautiful and spacious facility just off Keystone Ave. on 55th Str. We held our first meeting there April 4th and I was absolutely knocked out of my socks at the turnout! Many of our long-time members of the past and present arrived for our inaugural get-together, and we all enjoyed the classic DW episode "Castrovalva" (as Mark Gasper stated in his recent post on our Yahoo group, what a difference time and a special effects budget that isn't two pounds ten make).

SLEESTAK GLEAMINGS TO ONE AND ALL

So, whadd'ya expect at Christmas time from a sci-fi fan?

Sorry things have been a bit slow around here this last few weeks. We've been having to process a lot of things as far as where the website will be going, how we can make things better, include more content (photos and the like), spruce things up around here a bit.

One of the things we want to apologize for is a lack of maintenance as far as the commentary portion of the blogs. We welcome any commentary from our friends and fans, but have had a certain number of spammers posting very unwanted entries. Our Man in Raxacoricofallapatorius, Stephen, is hot on the problem and we hope to have this resolved very soon.

WE'RE OFF ADVENTURING AGAIN!

This Thanksgiving weekend, several of your favorite Whoosiers will be heading out of town for fun and profit... emphasis on the fun.

Mark Gasper and Co. will be heading north with his Doctor Who USA setup to the Chicago TARDIS convention being held at the Crown Plaza Hotel in Rosemont, IL, 5440 River Road. So if you're heading for this great Doctor Who convention, be sure to stop at his display and gaze in awesome wonder at all the tons and tons of fantastic DW/Torchwood/Brit Sci-Fi merchandise his back can bear!

Meanwhile, Dee and I will be heading east to Columbus, OH for the annual Mid-Ohio Con, being held at the Columbus Convention Center, 400 N. High Str. in the heart of town. It's been quite a while since we've been back and we're looking forward to seeing old friends, new faces, and great stars in TV, film, and comics. We're also hoping to get a chance to visit the Easton Center, which is a Christmas time wonder.
