Time to break out the charcoals and the ground Dalek meat, Because Who-Net is going to celebrate the summer at Carson Park! It's a pitch-in picnic, so bring whatever you'd like! There is a grill at our location as well as a portable necessary (or as a proper DW fan would call it, "The Loo").
For those who would be arriving via 465 the way to get there is to take the Kentucky Ave exit and turn west/southwest, go a short distance to High School Rd and turn left, then go about 1 minute south to the park which will be on your left. The park is across the street from a large fire station and Decatur Central High School.

I've been checking out the online coverage of the San Diego Comic Con, and I think it's finally settling in that this December we're heading back to that galaxy far, far away... which means I am just a big wad of giddy juice. Because not only are we getting the beginning of a brand-new trilogy directed by J.J. Abrhams and co-written with the legendary Lawrence Kasdan, all our heroes are back... Luke, Leia, Han, Chewie, Threepio, and Artoo. The Millenium Falcon soars again, and now we'll meet those who will carry on the galactic battle between good and evil.
As a young man, while I wasn't at the opening day of Star Wars in 1977, Deena, my brother Kenny, and I were at the Eastwood Theater on Memorial Day that weekend... the only theater in Indianapolis that was carrying the film. It was the first time I ever walked into that legendary cinema.... giant Dolby speakers sitting behind that magnificent curved 70 MM screen, smaller Dolby speakers set up all around the theater to maximize the movie-going experience. Just waiting for tickets and watching that line stretch from the doorway to around the theater and out into the Ayr-Way parking lot was astounding. I just knew that something very, very special was about to fill that screen.

Dear Whoosiers, Whovians, Whonatics, and Assorted Sentient Beings:
Hi, folks! Mark Dooley here, “De Boss” of the Whoosier Network, Indiana’s Doctor Who and Sci-Fi Connection, and on December 25th, Christmas Night at 9:00 PM, you’re cordially invited to the theatrical screening of DOCTOR WHO: THE LAST CHRISTMAS at Yes Cinema, 328 Jackson Street (next to the new Commons Mall). The Doctor and Clara are spending their last Christmas together in the capture of alien creatures trying to seize the North Pole. So who do you call? Santa Claus! And he’s packin’ heat…
Besides the final new Who of 2014, we’ll have some great doorprizes to hand out, a costume contest, and, if you’re really good, Unca Marky will have a brand-new Christmas filk song for you! Stuff that in yer friggin’ pudding! We’ll also have our club table set out with all kinds of goodies for purchase or handout. Do consider a very inexpensive year’s membership to the Whoosier Network, which comes with all kinds of cool stuff!

Many thanks to everyone who made it to the Christmas party this last Friday. While we didn't get a chance to check out the latest episodes, we had an even better time talking and having fun, playing an outrageous card game called "Cards Against Humanity" which worked as a variation on the old Match Game and Make-Your-Own-Adventure books, and, of course, our frantic gift exchange. I also decided today to do something vastly different from pizza, I made my very first Pork Wellington. Lots of ups and downs making that dish, but everyone seemed to enjoy it. Now that I've had that experience, I'll be making one for my family when we get together for Christmas.

Well. here was Plan A:
The Whoosier Network and Yes Cinema were going to put on a theatrical showing of "Doctor Who: Deep Breath" the evening of August 23rd, which would have included a cool costume contest, a best T-shirt contest (NOT a wet T-shirt contest), and some cool videoes to cap the night. We had to go the extra distance for this one because Yes needed to offset the cost of cancelling two showings of their scheduled film. And as always the Whoosier Network stepped up to the plate and met the challenge, raising the funds needed. With manager Ron Adams and the staff onboard, we were looking for an exciting evening that might have rivaled our presentation of "Day of the Doctor".

He's declared his Name, he's had his Night, he's had his Day... and now his Time has come. The Eleventh Doctor (Matt Smith) takes his final bow as he defends a small town against a gathering of his greatest enemies. And the Whoosier Network will be on hand to host the show at Yes Cinema, 328 Jackson Str., Columbus, Indiana Wednesday December 25th There will also be doorprizes and a costume contest, so come in your Whoish best! Also, before the show, there will be a special pre-show celebrating the fantastic three year run of Matt Smith as the Eleventh Doctor! And, if you're lucky, Mark "De Boss" Dooley will reveal the secret of the magic of Jackson Street...

You don't want to miss this Friday's Whoosier Network meeting! Not only will you see a terrific recent Doctor Who episode, "The Rings of Akhaten", but you'll be a part of our first Who-Net music video, "One Who More", a mash-up of Doctor Who and Les Miserables' "One Day More". We encourage all our participants to come in costume (though I will have some Doctor Who T-shirts available if you need one) and prepare to have a great time! There will be another taping session at the June meeting, if necessary, but for the most part we'll be doing group shots this Friday. Also, here's the URL for the music we'll be using, so do familiarize yourself with these.
